Smile SuperStreet, December 2008

Page 92

Someone is asking about swapping an SR20DET into a '96 Altima.......

Almost the entire answer is wrong.

"You won't need a mount kit, or need to cut or weld your car up." WRONG
The SR will fit in there...........but that would require custom mounts or modifying SR mounts and brackets.

"The best being from a '90 -'94 Pulsar Gti-r with almost 230HP."

Please magazine people, stop suggesting the gti-r. That motor is almost non-existent anymore, most are in poor shape........and the Bluebird and Avinier are much easier to get parts for.

"So you'll need one from a Sentra Se-r or one of the like, and you will need to modify the block before fitting it to the transmission."
WRONG
You don't have to modify it at all. ..........as that is what an Se-r has

........now we will have more Altima guys going down the wrong path

What makes it worse, is that we advertise in SuperStreet........or used to

Wow, you think a published mag with so much "Nissan Know-How" would have done a little bit better homework on something like that.

It's probably because of articles like that, that when I first had my SE-R and people found out it had the SR20DET, they're like "Duuuude, how'd you get a RWD engine in your FWD car?"

I used to just wink and tell them McGuyver had nothing on me.

Tell me about it. I live in an area filled with "Me too!" heads.

"What do you drive?"

"I drive a Honda."

"Me too!"

Hence, the term, Me Too.

Other than the fact that every yuppie who still lives with his mom and works at a car wash drives some beat up Civic, Teggy, or Prelude with more primer than horsepower, burnt oil tagging the rear cover, fart cans hanging at obtuse angles, revving at every car they meet, and just generally be annoying...nothing.

Now, I have nothing against well-designed and built Hondas, there's just none here save for one or two owned by friends of mine. Outside of that, that's it.
