Default QR25 Balance Shaft...

I've been finding a few bits of info throughout the internets about either:

1. Removing the balance shaft chain...cutting it and taking it out.

2. Using a 'balance shaft removal kit"

Are you guys familiar with either of these mods?
I want to do one of these...which can JGY help me with?

I want to do one of these two things to my QR. I think the most efficient would be to remove the entire assembly...but that also takes longer than simply 'clipping' the chain.

I think by doing this you will only see marginal HP gains and have a little more engine noise

Allegedly, you would be correct about the HP. The main reason to do this mod though is because the balance shaft has been found to be an "achilles heel" in these motors.

The balance shaft is there to lessen vibration since the QR is a long stroke 4cyl (vibration monster). Essentially there is a rotating mass that is spinning much faster than engine RPM, to counteract the harmonic vibrations of the running motor...but its being driven from the motor. At high RPMs the balance shaft is spinning significantly faster and is prone to some sort of failure or wear or something like that...blah, blah.

Some people cut the chain that drives the whole rotating assembly, and leave all the parts in the motor. Others take all the pieces out leaving an empty shell inside of the motor...others buy one of those removal kits.

After doing these things owners disagree with the results...most say there is almost no discernible difference in noise/vibration, while a small percentage describe it as aggressively different.

Notably, at least 95% of those who see it as a marked increase in vibration also report poly or solid (metal) motor mounts among their mods which reasonable could be seen as the cause of the excessive vibration once the balance shaft is deleted.

A set of cams would be an easy mod for you to do...And there are a few options we can get for you.

Jim wolf makes a few different cams and I'm pretty sure BC does also...The BC cams will definitely be cheaper but JWT has more options
