Default L31 OEM Fog Switch Install...

It takes all of ten minutes.

Steps:
1. Adjust the steering wheel so that it is pulled all the way towards your body as you are seated in the drivers seat.

2. Remove the three screws found under the bottom of the steering column.

3. Pay attention to how the plastic pieces around the steering column separate into three individual parts...the 'top', the 'bottom' and a 'side' piece that is right above the steering wheel tilt adjustment lever. Remove the side piece first, then the top and bottom pieces.

4. Remove the existing turn signal, light switch/stalk by releasing a clip at the top and bottom of the socket that plugs into the steering column.

5. Slide your replacement stalk until it clicks into place.

6. Replace the three plastic pieces, and the three screws....and youre done!

Tip: Dont break stuff...

That seems simple enough. So the car is wired to accept a switch with or without fog lights?

Well, in this car the fog light "switch" is just an extra collar on the turn-signal stalk. looks exactly like the normal turn stalk, but it has a second collar that you turn from off to on and vice versa. If your car doesnt have the fogs from the factory, you have a stalk w/out the fog part.

But every car is already wired to accept the fogs...meaning that behind the bumper the harness is taped to the chassis. Once fogs are put in the bumper, you can plug em in and turn em on. you'd just have to add a switch of your own, or get the nissan fog stalk like I did.

Yeah...and I accidentally bought the stalk that included 'auto' headlights.

I believe that on the properly equipped vehicle, there usually would be a light sensor somewhere in the dash so the lights should turn on when it is dark outside.

However, since my car doesnt have that sensor...i still get to use the 'auto' function, but its slighty different. On my car:

the auto function means i can leave the headlights on, and they will shut off approx 30 seconds after i remove the key and leave the car. then when i restart the car, they come back on

I bought yellow lamps, and I bought yellow "Lamin-X" protective overlays.

I was really intent on having a strong yellow beam from the fogs, but I havent been able to get that just yet actually.

My plan was to use LED's...but it seems that LED bulbs arent available in 'yellow'. Any Hong Kong supplier will try to sell em to you, but what they call yellow (just to get them sold), is actually amber.

What do you guys know about LED's? I have just about given up, but if you know something helpful, please share.
