Money ? side from needing a welded diff his car is set. No need to be all flashy on high dollar rims and tires. Stock set of wheels and then just collect the tires you need from junk yards. Its not all the expensive to drift if your just looking to have fun.

It would be pretty sweet to see a 560sx drifting... I thought someone was building one once but their ADD set in and they got distracted... who was that???

drifting is silly expensive and if you don't believe me, go to 2 events and then tell me how much you spend, you are talking in the thousands unless the track is next to you house (for some reason, I can't find it)

read this: I wrote this last year

Nathan, ask Dustin when the last time he drifted?

Dustin

The last time I dirfted was about 2 years ago (in my own car and my own tires)

Event registration - $70.00
Gas- $30.00
4 sets of used tires- $275.00
Fun- PRICELESS
-------------------------------
Total for a day of of drifting (8 hours) $375.00

Yes if you drift on a competitive level it gets expensive but going out for one weekend of drifting here and there just because you love it really is not bad....its sure not in the thosands as Jason said......

Jason@JGY

yes, it is thousands $$$$$$

Dustin in his normal defiant nature actually proved my point.

1. If he ONLY spent $30 in gas, it must have been down the road from his house.
2. You can not get 4 sets of used tires in your car with ease and if you are really going to do this right.....you need a trailor anyway. How much did the trailor cost? How much did the tow vehicle cost you?
3. Also, most events do not have a community tire changer for you to use.......better bring wheels with tires and a jack
4. So, let's assume that you did this on one day locally.........cool To most, yes, to most of us, a Drift event is not locally and will probably cause you to miss a day of work. Let's say that you make $12/hour so you also lost $96 if you only miss one day of work. That's if it is only one day.
5. Add in the abuse to your vehicle versus drag racing and you will see. It's like arguing with someone that a trip to 2 hours away from you only cost you nothing because you already had gas in your car............That makes no since as it cost you gas, tire wear, oil change coming sooner, etc, etc For us with low profile tires and quality oil, you can average that driving 1 mile costs you about 48cents.

Compare drifting to drag racing
1. Time away from work is the same.
2. Normal entry fees are cheaper
3. You will use less gas
4. You ONLY need 1 extra set of tires at most.
5. You can drive to the event.
6. You WILL do less strain to your car in a drag, than a drift.
7. You will consume 1/50th the amount of tire rubber at a drag

I love drag racing and I love drifting. I don't like it when people exhagerate to people about the cost of something.

Dustin................go drift at 2 events and honestly tell me how much it costs you, if you hit under 1k, then you are right and I am wrong, add your food up too

Also........might I suggest that we add in the chance of car damage into the mix? hum...............

oh........and this

Dragging
Event registration - $65.00
Gas- $80.00 (because I am honest.......I'm saying $80)
1 set of slicks that will last all year $300/8 drag strips = $37.5
Fun- PRICELESS
-------------------------------
Total for a day of of drifting (14 hours) $182

so..............go to 2 events and lets see

and now, you don't live next to events so you are like the rest of the 98% of the world that has to drive to stuff

I was talking to some of the guys from Import Intelligence about how expensive drifting was last year.

Also, when Garland and I went to VIR last year, 95% of the guys had trailored their non-street legal drift cars to the event.

Dustin

Yeah but those guys make a habit of going to many many events, And there a shop meanign the owner is involved, if I was you Id be able to do alot more then I currently can but im not Im just a 25 year old car guy making a living in the business I love but there is no and will never be any extra money for me to do competition drifting i know this, I was only talking abut the guy that goes out now and then just for fun , the vir stuff has points standing and all that, so no everyone cant do that, but for somone that wants to gout once a month or every other month cost can be kept realitively cheap. Yes drag racing is much more $$$$ friendly but it isnt about the money to everyone, if my S14 ran I would go to an even now and then but I know I cant compete because my pockets arent swole enough.

Hey Dustin, when's the last time you drifted at a competition?

Dustin
06-08-2009, 09:49 PM
Never have, I always went to practice events to hopefully get good enough to oneday do a comp event.....then my Ex fiance wrecked my 240 when she decided to take it out one night while I was alseep.....Shes my EX for a reason, 6 years together and all it took was her wrecking my baby and I was liek GTF out hoe

wow. what a fxing trick.

yeah i had told them i wanted to do it every now and then and the response i got was..."thats one of the stupidest things to ever come out of your mouth"
i know for a fact i dont have the resources to compete at an advanced level but i know i could make it a once a month thing.

Dustin

i have 4 complete sets of steel wheels for my 240 i have less than 150 dollars in them and yes they came with good rubber not realy pro looking but hey it gets the job done i run C or Q 16 fuel when i rev my car long and hard so yes fuel is costly 5 gallon can wont do i bring 3 cans and still have to stop at the station to get home. but after a hard day of redline reving your oil is about cooked 1 day of drift = 3000 miles to be honest if you consider engine heat and abuse so count another oil change 50 bucks if using motul oil and good filter then consider all other exspenses event cost food and the shortening of the life of your engine in the 1/4 lets say your f/r car is quick say hi 11's low 12's ok staging and run plus return to your trailer to get ready for next run 3 min top's of run time only a few seconds above 3 grand so little fuel i can drag all day on a 5 gallon can of fuel to the 3 to drift. and i dont care you are foolish to carry a high powered car to a track be it drag or drift with out a tow trailor if you break you have to call a wrecker or a friend either way costing added headaches and money

Dustin

90% of drift cars are NOT high powered, Formula D and D1 and all those guys glorify the high hp cars but a bone stock SR or KA with or without a turbo is perfectly capable of carrying a nice drift, maybe not on the high banking circle tracks D1 runs from time to time but 99% of drifters are not in D1 or Formula D. And why people still run high octane "race gas" is beyond me, AEM water injection is much more cost effective....buy it once and never buy race gas again...hell you dont even have to run alcohol with it you can use just water and still run more boost.

Side note......AEM water injection available from JGY (yes I just plugged AEM's product and tried to generate sales at the same time :) call for pricing )

Seccond side note....JGY sleeve kits for all SR's now available....buy them too

Lastly this week only anyone that calls in an order and can guess what peak HP my Q45 put down at the wheels gets an additional discount on there order.....let the guessing begin :)

P.S. Its probably more then most of your SR's LOL

::::: DISCLAIMER :::::
All customers limited to 1 guess per order
No I will not tell you what it is if you guess wrong!! I will however tell you all on Saturday when this is over.
