View Full Version : BoV's

I got a Type-RS on my car and it's not working, it stays open too long and the RPM's tank till the car dies. Now Garland told me that it's actually a common problem and I either need to recirculate or get a new BoV so now I need to know which BoV should I get. Would a 50mm Tial work? Which one is best? I've spent too much already I need to get it right this time.
Or would I just be better of recirculating it? I did like the sound of it venting though not sure how much quieter it would actually get recirculating.

Personally I am a fan of the HKS SS (Super Sequential) BOV sounds good and I have not heard of any problems with it tanking the RPMs.

I run the Greddy on my G20 with the Gti-r motor. It's quiet. I run the Turbo XS on my Se-r with the Avinier. It's loud and people like it.
It's a personal thing.......The Greddy seems to stay open a long time and would be a great thing for a typical Honda MAP style setup. It's quality is great and it works great on Nissans.
Our Mustang's idle is HORRIBLE. When I drive it, I don't let it die. People ride with me and never notice it. Sometimes I brake with my left foot while using my right to play with the gas.
You have to drive the car, not let the car drive you.
If you don't want to hit the gas to keep the car running and you have a Greddy.....that's cool, get an HKS or a Turbo XS from us. You will like it.
CarlosSupra2JZliker, or what ever his name is........on our forum, he bought an S14 we built for Brandon because he claimed it was undrivable. :-0 hahaha
He brought it here one time and (Brandon) and asked me to drive it. I did and he rode with me. When we got back he asked how it only dies with him in it and not with me. I said "I push the gas pedal" It's natural to me.
He called us when he got home and was complaining that he almost died on the interstate because his brakes and power steering went out on him on I77 going down the big hill. I asked him why and he said when he pushed the clutch in the car would die. That never made any sense to me. Why would you push the clutch in while driving 70mph on the interstate and let the car die? Some people never figure out that driving a car is not about going through the motions, it's about reacting to the environment and making adjustments to get the results you want. In a simplistic comeback, I would say "so if you turn into a driveway and run into the mailbox, it's the car's fault? no, when you turn the wheel, the car turns, but you have to keep altering your degree of wheel turn so that you get the car where it wants to go."
If you don't like the side effect of the Greddy (I don't either), buy the Turbo XS because the cost to function ratio is the best.
I enjoy learning new ways to drive and new techniques everyday. You ever driven a manual car from the passenger side?

Sorry brother, yours is done, but dont sweat it they dont all have problems, the chances of yours not workin correctly are slim and none, just like your odds of getting a nice young lady to bed you.

Well it's recirculated and runs like a champ. The RPMs catch perfectly, the GReddy works perfectly, and you'd never know there was ever a problem.
Lesson learned, RECIRCULATE AND KEEP YOUR MAF HAPPY

depends on the BOV

Tell me about the Turbo XS BOV. Which model are you running and do you run into the same problem with the idle that you talk about with the Mustang? I am still half and half as to recirc my Greddy or install the Turbo XS RFL and your experience with both will help me out.

Jason is right it depends on the BoV

rfl means loud. now not everyone has an issue with the greddy. a boost leak will make is worse as well as having it set too soft. but the main reason the greddy has issues is it stays open too long. so to recirculate it will take care of this. get over the noise addiction and make it run right. now the rfl is a fifty fifty shot also. so if you have the greddy just recirculate.

pffff recirculate ? Whats that ?

Recirculation is a myth
It's like that white hairless dragon that Nathan dreams about to carry him away in his dreams from the 4 ugly midgets that are tormenting him with Raisonettes.
The Mustang's Bov works perfect. Opens quick, shuts quick.
The blue se-r's bov works perfect. Opens quick, shuts quick.
both run the RFL
We have never had a bad install with the RFL.

if you want to recirculate.......
1. Greddy
2. Turbo XS recirculating bov, not the RFL
3. HKS.....because you are wasting the value of this bov
if you do not want to recirculate
1. Turbo XS
2. HKS (it's only second due to value/price ratio, but in reality, it's a better BOV)
3. Greddy
4. Let Dustin ride with you and yell "pissssh" out the window

Noise addiction isn't my problem Mario, time constraints are. I have to have this car back on the road by Monday with the fewest problems possible. Right now I am driving around my wifes Mazda since she is out of town for her reserve time, and once she gets back she gets her car back. The main drawback right now is that I have the kids and don't have the available time to take my piping apart and get it to a muffler shop to get a recirc welded in. It is easier for me to just mount the XS and be done with it for now since I can mount it at my leisure. Later on down the road yes I may get the recirc, after I see how the XS drives.
I really appreciate your candor and the info from Jason, I just have to take the info I get and apply it to my situation.

How'd you know I hate Raisonettes?!?

Are you saying that there isn't a HPdifference, while small, between open and recirculating?

Awesome glad to see you got your car working right. The only downside I see of doing this is that the BOV won't be as loud. But I guess if its putting the power to the pavement then its worth it. I sure do love the sound of a good BOV though. mmMMMMMMM!!! PISSHHHHH!!! HMHMMMMMMMMMMMAAAA!!!! PISSSHHHHHH!!!! lol
Here is a great pic of a recirculated BOV. Look at the BOV on the right side of the pic.

Only thing about the RFL that I'm noticing is that like 75-80mph cruising it surges. Guys got any fixes for that? Only running 2 washers in it and 14lbs of boost

Awesome glad to see you got your car working right.
I wouldn't say it is working right yet, I simply stopped where I was at until I can get a friend over to help out with a couple things. This weekend I am replacing the oil pan, doing an EGR delete and redoing the vacuum lines with thick wall red silicone, and swapping the Greddy for the XS.

1. most small framed men with big hair do..I think it due to the wrinkles and shrinkage of them
2. there is absolutely NO HP difference between any blow off valve.... A bov allows the extra air pressure that occurs when you close your throttle body to not push backwards on the turbo making it not want to spin because on the other side the exhaust is turning it the other way
