Have you guys noticed how Super Street has been getting "dirtier"?

Let's skip all the girls and nudity..................

but the constant references to sex, and genitals and homosexualness.......
Feb 2008 issue
Skip all the ads, and go to the 3rd page of the real magazine......page 22 and there is a picture of a genital pump and the editor talks about getting an erection after seeing a man at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

Go a couple pages more into it, and find page 25 describing different people at the mag and different contributors to see them talk about lesbians, dirty deeds and sex videos.

Page 28 mentions "launching the brown rocket" and "wiping their bottoms".

Page 37 is titled "Quickie, Get off in two Pages"

I'm only into the magazine a quarter of the way. It keeps going and going. We advertise in this magazine, too.

Is it funny? Am I just different than most? I find that the target market would not find it very amusing. I also know that the "producers" of the magazine are not 17 years old, so what is going on here?

I'm 32 or 33 years old (I know) and I don't find this funny at all. I don't get these magazines for free to read them and keep seeing barely clothed girls and references to filth over and over.

I'm all for humor and teasing and different tastes........but it seems like it's getting old. It's not just Super Street either. Many magazines are hitting this trend. Is it that some of the European style of magazines is trickling over here? Or am I just OLD?

I guess the fact is that sex sells, more magazine's will be sold, and some people are gonna pick one up and buy it when they see it in the magazine's, and however it comes to them, the better for them!

If I want to read about sexual content, I will just get whatever media that is specialized for sex, not just some super street, etc.. magazine!

Your right!!! They should just stick to the main topic that heads there magazine

Well IMO I would say this is due to the HUGE popularity of mags like Maxim and FHM thos mags have EXPLODED as of late and every other mag out there wants to get on the bandwagon.

I think you are on to something there. Honestly, I have never read one of those mags, but have seen the covers and hearing about them on shows like the Daily Show etc........I think I have a decent understanding of what the deal is.

But............ do you think that type of stuff in a Sport Performance mag will increase readership.......i.e. subscriptions and newstand buys? I don't think so

In all HONESTY like the saying goes SEX SELLS...so IMO yes it probably will increase sales. Alot of mags have been that way for years and with the increase of shows like HIN and Nopi that some of the biggest & most popular parts of the Events are Bikini contests and Bubble pits wet t-shirt contests ETC. it will be come more prevelent in mags.

Well, you know what you need to do... maybe now you don't feel confortable with the direction Super Street is headed, think about advertising in a different mag. Personally I love Modified Mag. they almost always have some sort of article that involves Nissans of all sorts. Now still being new to the street world, I love reading through Modified's articles. Very informative, explain things very well, and detailed photos. I don't believe I have read a Super Street, and being a marketing major, it is definately possible to have "too much" of a good thing.
