crazy idea right? buddy of mine wants to start a new project car and that is his grand idea. he's built two decent 240's with a highly modded KA and basically stock SR. but he said he wants to swap an RB into a 300zx. i told him that some serious work would have to been done in order for that to happen. he said it wouldnt be too bad once he got the motor in cuz everything about the car is setup pretty well. he's looking at an '85 300zx w/turbo. makes sense cuz he would already have a boost guage and just install or swap a few other. and it comes stock with 5 bolt pattern, i dunno about an LSD, have to look into that.....but i still dont know about fitting that engine in there. what do you guys think? personally, i've never seen an RB of any sort in a 300zx

A some-what local guy did this a few years ago. He's on different sucky forums under the name of RBNMYZ or something like that. I never saw the car, but he told me about it. I think it is a neat conversion, although the VG30ET motor makes good power as well and can be upgraded easily. The hard part for most good home mechanics is wiring/mounts/axles on swaps like that. Many guys will search for months finding what mounts will make it work, etc. I remember those days. It's still fun, though.
For us, we would make it all here. Having the ability to make motor mounts is very nice. The mount kit that we made for the Mustang is straight awesome. The mounts we made for the SR powered Nissan truck were good but easy.....not alot of work.
Your next step is to call 276 782 9100 and buy something.

well i've been checking out zilvia.net and the guys on there said the RB20 was offered as an upgrade on a few models. and that just a "couple" things would be needed to be swapped and it would basically drop right in. the big things were the shaft, crossmember, tranny mount, and engine mounts. and then this guy swapped an RB25, and he said that everything he did would still need to be done for a RB20 swap.? check out his build, http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=119145

Ive never heard of that......ever, ive never heard of the RB being offered in the 300Z but if it was id love to be shown proof, after all being proved wrong is awesome if it teaches me something. Fid proof of this claim :)

well i say it was offered in the 300zx/Z31, but it was actually the 200ZR that came with the RB20DET. Same, but different. Now that I've done some research on this, I'm thinking I want a RB Z31. I mean, I checked out some videos and looked over the guy's forum post of his build and i want one!! but, you guys would have to do the install for me cuz i dont have all the means with my tiny garage. And with that in mind, i wanna say i thought i saw some where that you guys could come pick up cars to take back to your shop? I could be wrong cuz I tried to find it again today but I didnt see it? I wanna just get a shell to try to cut down on labor costs. Which leads me to, reviewing this one guy's thread that i previously posted, i know general about prices but what kind of labor should i expect of something like this?
o yea, i know it's not the most realiable source, but i found that info. about the 200ZR on wikipedia.....yea i know
