It's really not that complicated........just with the english instructions that are included in the box, and the issue that is says "set boost", yet the controller says "set gain", it can be tricky.
I want to add that the values are not exact.....each set up varies.
This is a general rule of thumb for setting it up for an SR with a stock turbo.
Set = 50
Gain = 15
Set Gain = 0
This will yield you about 13to14psi on HI.
It is easy and logical toggling between the settings and the hi and lo boost. Just remember that pushing the knob after you choose a value saves it. If you change the value and just hit the mode button, it doesn't save it. You can check your settings by going back to the desired mode again.
The SET value is a rough percentage of what the wastegate can do. So.....if the wastegate/turbo setup could do a most of 30psi, then setting the SET to 50%, will yeild you about half of that. It's not exact, and you need to play with it.
The GAIN value is a rough value based on a max of 35 that helps adjust the SET value. It's not a science.......When the boost falls off at higher RPMS, you need to raise the GAIN value to prevent this. When a Boost spike occurs.......you may need to lower the GAIN. Also, leaving the SET to the same value and playing with the GAIN, you can change the max boost. We found that the 50 and 15 values as listed above, let the boost drop off by about 2 psi in the upper RPMs. You may not want this. So change it.
We did not mess with the SET GAIN. It seemed to do little if anything that we wanted. It actually seemed to do the opposite of what we wanted. It's function is to start adjusting or opening the wastegate sooner and/or later. Greddy claims that you need the value close to the SET value, but in several installs, we found the OPPOSITE. If we did, we could not control the boost as it would not go past factory boost. We suggest that you just leave this value at 0. Also......why would you want the wastegate to open sooner? That just wastes effenciency. We also stood outside the cars and watched the actuator and this function seemed to do nothing other than just let the actuator open too much.
For reference, a SET value on a T28 yielded us 16psi. A SET value of 50 on a T25 yielded us 14psi.
We also just turned the over boost warning to the highest value.......so that it won't warn you. Realistically, most people have the unit in a hard to see place while driving. Also, with the sound of the car when it is running.......there's no way you car going to hear and see this unit when you are over boosting........and that is what the boost gauge is for.
But, if you want to........ set the warning and then set the limiter........and this drops the boost on a percentage basis of the SET amount. It's easy to understand.
The unit has other features like recording the peak boost, etc.......that are not important to us.
On our Mario Difficulty Scale, this would be a 4.
