so i know a little bit about cars, but i know more about nitro RC. I've got my own race truck but never get a chance any where so i make shine as often as i can. well one technique i use to polish my aluminum tuned pipe (exhaust) is rub steel wool all over the pipe to a dull finish and wipe off the dust. i then use some turtle wax scratch remover (only stuff i've got, but maybe other sratch removers work??) and do the sratch removal prodecure. i do this whole process twice and it make the pipe look like pure cept for the scraps from racing. so i though to myself, self? what if you did this to the heat shield that covers the headers.....doesn't look as good as my pipe but golly, that steel wool removed a TON of rust off of it and it has a decent shine for a car that is 16 yrs. old!! i'll get some pics up 2morrow if i get a chance.

Yeah, that's kinda like one of the steps in polishing metal. I've polished a set of wheels using the same stuff. If you get a drimel tool or something with high RPM, it'll shine like chrome.
