View Full Version : b13 ecu question

I noticed that there are a couple of ecu's for sale on sentrastuff.com.
Question is, will the avinier turbo ecu (that's for sale $200) plug-in and properly run a bluebird swapped b13 ('93 se-r and original wiring harness)?
If that works, what kind of performance difference can I expect vs. the already tuned ecu (for 50 lb. inj and Cobra maf $700 as advertised)?
Other than a fmic, 3" downpipe and walbro 255, everything is stock.
Also, what's the best way to regain function of the A/C? And where do the water lines for the turbo go, one to the block and the other to ______? Guess I'm just not seeing it.
Need to get this thing running soon, and no I haven't seen Dog the Bounty Hunter lately!

Also, is there a way to identify original se-r injectors vs. the bluebird injector (370cc I think). Reason I'm asking is because it looks like the '93 se-r intake manifold was used (seems like EGR components don't bolt on). IDK I wanna delete the EGR stuff if possible. Your thoughts....

1. The avinier ecu will run the B13, but we suggest the JWT ecu. The other ecu that you ask about is set up for larger injectors and larger maf. If you need more than 230HP or so, the second ecu can accomodate you.
2. stock what?
3. your a/c should work fine, what is in the way?

stock se-r's are red, bluebirds are purple and/or grey from sun
Kemp.........are you saying that your car is turbo'd with a factory motor or not? help me help you
p.s. used any ice today?

Ok, I bought an unfinished project and I'm trying to get it running.
My other car is a B14 with Gti-R motor with an Autronic standalone (Izumi Racecraft) done a long time ago. This means I forgot alot and didn't wire my own car. Since then I've done a bunch of motor swaps in Honda's.
The unfinished project came not running and with extra parts in the trunk (ie. another sr rail w/ injectors, cobra maf, fmic, bov, including reciept from JGY). The car came with what looks like a bluebird motor (not sure) but, already installed. The wiring was all over the place, but I was told that the original se-r harness was used. I've been able to redo the wiring and have gotten the car to start (runs like crap).
I already have the cobra maf, but I was asking about the ecu's because the goal is to get the car running decently, sell it and make a few dollars (to help support my habit or use the money saved for a set of ksport's). Obviously it'll be cheaper to use the avenier ecu, but will I be embarassed by a swapped hatchback?
I asked about the EGR system because the ex. tube has no where to go (the tube that runs from behind the tb to the ex. manifold). ??? I want to block off the holes in the manifold and delete the system, will that work?
Then, I was wondering about the water line from the turbo, (the hard line that passes over the trans) I can't find where to connect it. I suppose that I could splice into one of the hoses (pain is the a**). Or maybe the previous owner reconnected the hoses wrong.
For those two reasons, I was thinking that the previous owners used the US spec se-r intake manifold on the bluebird motor.
As for the A/C, the compressor, which also came in the trunk, looks like only three of the four mounting hole line up with the bracket that is attached to the block. That's as far I got with the A/C, but this will be absolutely needed so that I can roll up the super dark tinted windows and hide from Beth!
One more thing, do I need to change any of the sensors, I know that in my B14 the oil and water temp lights on the instrument cluster don't work properly.

I think that a proper K or H swap (N/A) hatchback would be about even with the Avenier ecu... If it works... The JWT will just work better. Avenier and BB ecu's have been known to actually cause problems, then you're looking at sending it out to JWT to get tuned anyways. I'd just skip that step and beat on those hatchbacks all day long.

You should post pictures the B14 section here is empty.

I might have some old pictures, I'll post them if I can find them.
Avenier/BB ecu causes problems?
Why would JGY sell that ecu?
I'll be calling soon to order an ecu. Do I get the *forums* discount?
Any thoughts on the A/C, EGR and waterline question? Anyone?

Is everyone burried in snow? Where is everyone?
Still don't understand why JGY would sell something that would cause more problems.
A/C, EGR, waterline????

You need to use the JWT ecu because you already have the cobra maf from what I can tell. Now you just need 50lb injectors.
He may have used the factiry manifold but Im pretty sure the water line doesnt connect to the manifold.
And the avenier ecu wont cause any problems for someone that needs it. You my friend dont need it your already half way set up for the JWT setup.

Sorry sometimes people need to think about your problems to make sure you don't get wrong advise.
Agreed that you need to go with the JWT ecu.
It was my understanding that factory ECU non tuned units have caused problems in the past, RPMs stop at 5500 an such. Now it's possible that these ECU issues I've tried to help people with are flukes, but there was never much for me to do other then tell them to send it to JWT. If I'm wrong here my apologies but if I could remember where I found this tidbit.
Does the weather near you require the A/C? When I was doing my avenier i found that the line had clearance issues so I just capped the line off at the firewall.
Did you figure out what sort of intake manifold is on there? SE-R and Avenier manifolds are different.

Ok, was wondering if the avenier ecu would work with a BB swapped B-13, even though I didn't get a straight answer, ordered the already tuned ecu and 50 lb. injectors.
Not trying to spend more than I have to. The car was not running, just wanted to get it back on the road running properly and sell it as a project with great potential. Not many guys build Nissans in my area. I found it and couldn't just let it sit and rot, besides the interior was immaculate, still smelt like new! It was on the second owner after being swapped, and still not running. Both previous owners are gonna see this thing on the road and are gonna want it back!
Was trying to compare price and performance. Thought that I could plug in the avenier ecu and be rolling.
A/C not required, but desired.

I'm glad that you'll have it on the road again. You should let us see this project too.
